Your Path to Success! Are you looking to jumpstart your career in hospitality? Are you interested in a career change? Our Cafe Operations course combines practical skills training on a commercial espresso machine with learning language specific to hospitality and tips for job searching. Acquire the skills, confidence and readiness for entry-level hospitality work or further study.


This course is an approved activity and considered as fulltime study by Centrelink. It may meet all participation requirements. People with a disability are encouraged to apply.

  • Improved Digital Literacy Skills: Navigate online assessments and boost your digital literacy skills, essential for success in today's technology-driven workplace 

  • A Certificate which includes: SITXFSA005 Use Hygienic practices for food safety; SITXWHS005 Participate in safe work practices; SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee; SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol and the Certificate 22476VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults (Introductory) upon successful completion

Cluster 1: Food Safety

Cluster 2: Working safely

• VU23765 Work with directions in highly familiar situations

Cluster 3: Barista operations

• SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
• VU23781 Work with fractions, decimals and percentages in familiar and predictable situations
• VU23783 Work with measurement in familiar and predictable situations

Cluster 4: Learning and finding work

• VU23764 Work with money in highly familiar situations
• VU23769 Develop learning goals
• VU23772 Engage with simple texts for learning purposes
• VU23773 Engage with simple texts for employment
• VU23777 Create simple texts for learning purposes
• VU23778 Create simple texts for employment purposes
• VU23780 Work with whole numbers in familiar and predictable situations

Cluster 5: Serve alcohol

• SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol

Cluster 6: Planning an event

Course Delivery  

Face to face classroom delivery in a supported learning environment. Laptops are provided.

Time: 9:30 am – 4:00 pm 
3 days per week for 12 weeks or 4 days per week for 9 weeks

Assessment 

Assessment are conducted via a secure online student portal.

1. Evidence of Citizenship – One piece of identification from the list here 
2. USI number –  You must have a USI number before applying for a course

3. Concession card – (if applicable) a concession fee can be applied: Health Care Card, Veterans Card, Pension Card

Prerequisite 

*SITXFSA005 Use Hygienic practices for food safety is a prerequisite for SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee 

Fees and Charges 

Do I have to pay?  

There is no cost to you if you are eligible for Victorian Government Skills First funding. For more information on eligibility please go to Skills First eligibility Victorian government skills first funding 

If you are not eligible for Victorian Government Skills First funding fees will apply. Please go to Fees and Charges

You may also be eligible for fee support through the Jesuit Social Services Student Support Fund. For information on the Student Support fund please go to Student Handbook
